Child Legacy International believes that in order to make lasting change in Africa, we must work to nurture and educate her children into productive adults and future leaders.

Many non-government organizations provide immediate food assistance to starving orphans, but we ask the global community this question - What happens to these children when they grow up? We must provide basic needs and the tools for long-term sustainable welfare and growth.

A new way of thinking.
Current programs are teaching nothing except dependency on foreign aid for food. These children may grow up, but they will lack education and skills, and therefore be forced to walk the sameroad that may have contributed to their parents' death - a life of crime and in many cases, prostitution, just for survival.

These methods leave economies weak and stagnant and propel the spread of infectious diseases while perpetuating a cycle of poverty.

The focus must shift from giving hand-outs to giving hand ups! We must change the expectations for relief – and deliver programs that provide for tangible changes in lifestyles, behavior and self-reliance.

Our philosophy mirrors that of the Chinese proverb, "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." We must also embrace the fact thatfishing can be fun – and continuously find ways to expand the positive impact that self-reliance brings to a community. Every life that we improve will impact future generations of Africans. Success breeds success.

Together with our international partners, Child Legacy International invests in human potential by first increasing health and wellness through food supplementation and access to health care, and then by offering an education that will produce an income-generating job.
