The Clean Water Climb is an event that Child Legacy is hosting to raise awareness and funds for clean water in Malawi, Africa. To support this great cause, a volunteer team of climbers from the United States and Africa has been assembled to scale the world's tallest freestanding mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro. Topping out at an elevation of 19,349 feet, each climber will be facing a tremendous physical challenge, but each individual is extremely devoted to repairing wells in Malawi so they are determined to rise to the top. YOU can help them reach the summit!
As you know, we have been repairing water wells since 2008 and even though we have repaired nearly 1300 broken pumps in Malawi, there is still a great need. More than 40% of handpumps in the rural areas are non-functioning, meaning that millions of Malawians are having to find alternative water sources, and most of those sources are unprotected. We have seen it first hand; visiting primary schools and hearing teachers report student death or poor attendance due to bad water. We feel that those who can help, should, and in the case of well repair, a little goes a long way.
Our 2nd annual Mt. Kilimanjaro Clean Water Climb is quickly approaching and we would love for you to take part in it. Our overall well repair goal for 2012 is 500 wells and with funds secured for 389 repairs already, we are working hard for 111 more. Our climbers are gearing up to climb this mountain starting on July 1st (It will take five days to get to the top and back down!!) and your support is what will get them through it! In doing so, you will save entire villages from one of the world's leading causes of death - waterborne disease.
